Leadership and Team Development
Building better leaders and stronger teams across the skilled trades and the schools preparing the next generation.
Every conversation, decision, and action is building something. The same is true of our teams and the people we lead.
Are you building by default or by design?
We are always building something, in ourselves and in the people around us.
Whether we notice it or not, the way we show up every day is shaping who we become and how others experience us. The same goes for our teams and our organizations. They are built over time, through the small moments and the choices we make.
Here is what it comes down to: everything worth building rises and falls on people. How we treat, develop, and influence them reflects who we are, and impacts them, our business, and our community.
The scoreboard of our business is driven by how we treat our people.
Build people up, and you build the teams, the culture, and the results that follow. You can lead without doing this. But not in a way that lasts, or that people want to be part of.
The building is never finished. The real question is whether we are paying attention to what we’re building.
Are you building by default, or by design?
Every one of us is building beliefs, habits, and character, shaped by our experiences, the people we’ve met, and the challenges we’ve faced. Leading others well starts with leading ourselves.
Building isn’t measured by what we know. It’s revealed by what we choose to do at any given moment.
1:1 CoachingThe relationship you have with yourself sets the tone for every relationship you lead.
Real impact begins within. Together, we examine what shapes how you think, live, and lead. Not to become someone else, but to sharpen who you already are.
Leading yourself with intention is where it starts. Building the people around you is where it matters.
Team FacilitationCulture is never an accident. It is created in the daily choices of how your people communicate, connect, and trust one another.
Once leaders learn to lead themselves, teamwork shifts. Conversations get sharper, accountability gets clearer, and progress becomes a shared effort, carried together.
Strong cultures are built, one conversation and one relationship at a time.
Behavior & ConnectionDISC tells you how someone is wired. Building Beyond DISC teaches your people what to do with it.
It goes deeper than behavior styles, turning how we are wired into real connection, stronger communication, and better leadership across your team.
Growth, personal or on a team, comes down to a handful of real, foundational areas. These are the ones we build and strengthen together, so you and the people around you can lead more effectively.
Everyone feels your culture.
We need to understand it to improve it.
You only see what you see.
As a leader, you see your organization from one seat. Your team sees it from another.
They may experience things you never see, or see the same things differently. Sometimes people don’t say what they really think. Sometimes they say it, but it isn’t fully heard.
That is where assumption begins to take over.
Through a structured culture assessment, we gather honest feedback from your team and create a clear picture of how your culture is actually being experienced.
We identify the strengths worth protecting and building on, the areas that need to be strengthened, and the gaps between what leadership believes is happening and what the team experiences every day.
Take away assumption and listen to what your people are telling you.
Create clarity around the strengths, the gaps, and the areas that deserve attention.
Turn what you learn into consistent action that moves the culture forward.
Your culture is already being built. The question is whether it continues to be built by default, or whether you choose to build it by design.
See what’s real. Close the gaps. Build by design.
Culture improves when we see it clearly, through more than one set of eyes. Take three minutes with seven honest questions, and leave with one worth bringing to your team.
Do you feel like the hero your business depends on? The one holding it all together, spending every hour working in the business just to keep the doors open, with little time left to work on it, or on your people?
Most leaders carry that weight alone. There is a better way to lead.
My career has always been rooted in the skilled trades. Over 25 years in the automotive industry, 15 of them owning and operating businesses of my own, taught me what it really takes to lead people and run a business at the same time.
I know hard times and uncertainty firsthand. The leaders who keep building are the ones who stay in the driver’s seat and find opportunity in the hard moments, rather than being driven, watching from the passenger seat. It takes tough conversations, tough decisions, and real sacrifice.
That’s exactly where the meaningful work happens. It’s where we get to build people up, creating a ripple effect that reaches people we may never meet. We have a front row seat to see the impact reach our clients, our teams, our families, and our community.
Building people up and growing our business are meant to be together. To succeed, they must be aligned. That lived experience is the foundation of everything I do.
Today, I partner with leaders across the skilled trades, the schools preparing the next generation to step into them, and growing businesses. Different worlds, but the truth is the same: the teams that thrive aren’t just skilled. They understand one another, communicate clearly, and lead well together.
A discovery call is where we start. A conversation to understand where you are, what you are facing, and how I can help.
“The largest gap in life is life itself.”
For years I was living in that gap without realizing it, moving through life more by default than by design.
That gap is the space between our first breath and our last. Everything we become, build, and leave behind happens there. I believe everyone has the opportunity, at any time, to start building on purpose.
The shift came when I learned to slow down. Slowing down brought self-awareness, and awareness gave me the clarity to become intentional about how I was living, how I showed up for others, and what I wanted to build with the time I was given.
I began to see that every moment carries an opportunity. The decisions I make do not only shape my life. They affect my family, the people around me, the people I lead, and the people I have the opportunity to serve.
We are all being built on the way up, whether we recognize it or not. Becoming aware of what is being built gives us the opportunity to become more intentional about it.
That is where Built On The Way Up comes from. The question I ask others is the same one I continue to ask myself.
Are you building by default, or by design?
A real one.
I want to hear your story. Where you’ve been, where you are, what you’re carrying, what you’re working toward.
I’ll ask questions. I’ll listen. I’ll challenge what you’ve assumed about yourself without realizing it. How we get to your next step is what we figure out together.
Tell me where things stand. We’ll figure out the next step together.
Start the ConversationA leadership and team development practice. Through 1:1 coaching, team facilitation, and tools like DISC and the Culture Health Analysis, I help leaders, professionals, and teams communicate better, lead well, and build with intention. The focus is the skilled trades, the schools preparing the next generation, and the businesses building up the people the future depends on.
Coaching. It is designed to strengthen self-awareness, broaden perspective, create honest accountability, and help you become more intentional in how you lead yourself and others.
My role isn’t to tell you what to think or what decisions to make. It’s to walk alongside you on your journey. To challenge blind spots, ask thoughtful questions, encourage reflection, and help you turn insight into meaningful action. We are in this together.
Coaching is not a substitute for therapy, counseling, or mental health treatment. If those services are better suited to your needs, I’ll always encourage you to seek the appropriate support.
Yes. DISC is a resource, not the answer. Understanding how you’re wired is valuable, but what matters most is what you do with it.
That belief is the heart of Building Beyond DISC. We use it to build real understanding, stronger communication, and better leadership across a team.
Individual work is about leading yourself first. Team work is about learning to lead alongside others. The two build on each other. Great teams are built by intentional people. Most find more traction when their individuals have already started the work on their own.
Business owners, managers, and anyone stepping into leadership, whether for the first time or after years in the role. If you lead people and want to build on purpose, we should talk.
Both. I am based in Wisconsin and work in person across the Midwest, and I work virtually with leaders and teams anywhere. We will find the format that fits your people and your goals.
It starts with a conversation. From there, we take an honest look at what is really happening with your people, using tools like DISC and the Culture Health Analysis when they help. The tools reveal. I interpret and recommend the path forward. Then we build it together, crafted around your people and where you want to go. Every engagement is built for you, not pulled off a shelf.
Yes. People stay where they are valued, developed, and led well. When you invest in your people and build them up, it shows up in retention, in performance, and in how well your team serves the people who count on you. Retention is rarely just a pay problem. More often, it is a leadership and culture opportunity.
Yes. I speak and facilitate workshops on leadership, communication, and culture for teams, organizations, and industry events. If you are looking for someone to bring a real, people-first message to your group, let us start a conversation.
Reach out and we will talk about where you are, what you are facing, and how I can help. From there, we will know if we are the right fit to build something together.
What we’re really looking for is trust, the kind you build through honest conversation. If we find it, we walk forward together.

It is about the little moments. The ones that don’t feel significant while you’re living them, but turn out to matter most. Hard work builds strength. Having fun makes it worth it. Believing in each other makes it all possible.
